Brandon Jennings scored 21 points and Rodney Stuckey added 20 to help host Detroit defeat San Antonio in John Loyer’s debut as interim head coach.

Greg Monroe contributed 15 points and 10 rebounds and Andre Drummond had 14 points and nine rebounds as the Pistons won for the fifth time in seven games. Loyer replaced Maurice Cheeks, who was fired Sunday after just 50 games in his first season as coach.

Marco Belinelli scored 20 points and Boris Diaw added 12 for the Spurs, who dropped to 3-2 on the nine-game rodeo road trip. Tim Duncan, Cory Joseph and Tony Parker finished with 11 points apiece.

Detroit shot 56.1 percent in the opening half and used a 10-0 run late in the second quarter to open up a 59-48 lead at the break. The Pistons rolled up 33 points in the third to take a 92-72 advantage into the final stanza.

San Antonio trailed by 16 with under three minutes left before making a late dash and pulling within nine. Drummond’s tip-in with 40.3 seconds left halted the charge and Stuckey later buried a 3-pointer to help Detroit hold on.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Josh Smith (12 points) and Kyle Singler (10) also reached double digits for Detroit. … Spurs C Tiago Splitter (calf) missed his second straight game. … The Pistons piled up 13 steals while forcing 19 San Antonio turnovers that led to 26 Detroit points.
