Mavericks 116, Pistons 106: Dirk Nowitzki scored a game-high 28 points on 10-of-16 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds as Dallas outlasted visiting Detroit.

Jose Calderon contributed 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting and Devin Harris chipped in with 14 for the Mavericks, who won despite 17 turnovers. Vince Carter registered seven of his 13 points in the fourth quarter and Monta Ellis added 11 as Dallas snapped a two-game slide to start a four-game homestand.

Brandon Jennings led the way with 26 points and seven assists while Josh Smith scored 25 for the Pistons, who dropped their fourth consecutive game. Greg Monroe recorded 20 points and a team-high nine rebounds and Rodney Stuckey had 11 points for Detroit.

Dallas turned the ball over seven times in the first quarter, but made 11-of-17 from the field and Nowitzki scored eight for a 28-25 lead. The Mavericks quickly pushed that lead to 12 early in the second after scoring eight straight and settled for a 56-46 edge at intermission despite Smith’s 16 points.

Jennings scored seven as the Pistons recorded 12 of the first 14 points in the second half to tie it before Dallas edged in front 84-81 after three quarters. Carter’s 3-pointer ignited a 10-0 run to start the final period and Detroit pulled back within five, but Carter started an 8-0 burst with a basket and the Mavericks were on their way.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Dallas shot 58.1 percent from the field overall and made 6-of-12 from 3-point range in the second half. … Jennings went over 2,000 assists in his career (2,004). … Detroit has not won a regular-season series against the Mavericks since 1997-98 and dropped the last six games at Dallas.
