Pistons 104, Wizards 98: Josh Smith collected 22 points and eight rebounds and Rodney Stuckey scored 20 off the bench as Detroit held off host Washington.

Brandon Jennings scored 14 points and Greg Monroe recorded 12 points and 10 boards for the Pistons, who have won three of four. Andre Drummond chipped in 10 points and 13 boards for the Pistons.

John Wall scored 34 points but the Wizards (19-20) missed a chance to pull above .500. Martell Webster scored 15 in a reserve role and Nene had 14 points while Marcin Gortat contributed 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Stuckey’s three-point play gave the Pistons a 91-88 lead with 5:46 left and he totaled seven points during a 9-2 run that put Detroit on top 97-90 with 2:30 to play. Wall scored eight points in the final 2:08 to keep the Wizards close but Jennings hit three free throws in the final 20 seconds to put it away.

The Wizards took a 54-46 lead into the break and had it up to 10 points early in the third before the Pistons took off on an 18-4 run sparked by six points from Smith to grab the advantage. Detroit took a three-point edge into the final stanza and led 86-80 after Smith’s jumper with 9:29 left before Washington battled back to tie it at 88.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Pistons built up a 44-35 advantage on the glass and a 52-38 edge in points in the paint. … Washington F Jan Vesely made his way back into the rotation after sitting the last two games and scored seven points in 15 minutes off the bench. … Wall’s 34 points marked his first 30-plus outing since Dec. 6.
