Timberwolves 120, Trail Blazers 109: Kevin Love had 29 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists as host Minnesota halted Portland’s five-game winning streak.

Nikola Pekovic scored a season-high 30 points on 14-of-19 shooting and Kevin Martin broke out of a slump with 22 points as the Timberwolves defeated the Trail Blazers for only the third time in the last 24 meetings. Ricky Rubio had seven assists and Minnesota enjoyed a 53-45 rebounding advantage.

Damian Lillard matched a season high with 36 points and made seven 3-pointers and Nicolas Batum scored 20 points for Portland. Wesley Matthews added 16 points and LaMarcus Aldridge contributed 15 points and 14 rebounds.

The Timberwolves shot 60 percent from the field over the first 19-plus minutes while taking a 62-30 lead. Minnesota outscored Portland 42-12 over a 12-minute stretch while building the huge lead and settled for a 69-43 lead at the break.

The Trail Blazers made a spirited run in the third quarter and pulled within 80-70 on Joel Freeland’s basket with 3:33 left in the period. J.J. Barea made two 3-pointers during a late burst that allowed Minnesota to take a 20-point lead into the final stanza and Portland cut its deficit to five in the final minute before the Timberwolves made six straight free throws.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Love has scored at least 26 points in each of the last six games and is averaging 30 points during the stretch. … Lillard is 15-of-26 from 3-point range over the last two games. … Martin was 8-of-15 shooting after a one-game absence due to knee issues and had gone 5-of-24 from the field during his previous three games.
