Wizards 98, Knicks 89: John Wall had 31 points as host Washington earned a rare victory over visiting New York.

Fresh off a season-high 37 points in a loss to Toronto, Wall hit 10-of-18 shots from the field while adding seven assists to pace the Wizards. Martell Webster added 19 points, Bradley Beal had 18 and Marcin Gortat finished with 16 points and 17 rebounds.

Carmelo Anthony had 23 points and 12 rebounds as the Knicks dropped their fifth game in a row. J.R. Smith added 15 points for New York, which shot just 6-for-15 from the free-throw line.

Anthony had 13 points and Amar'e Stoudemire added 10 on 5-of-5 shooting as the Knicks carried a 52-49 lead into the break. Washington made quick work of the modest deficit, surging ahead on Webster's sideline 3-pointer with 10:11 remaining in the quarter and riding a pair of mid-range jumpers from Gortat - part of a six-point, nine-rebound quarter - to a 76-69 advantage entering the fourth.

A Beal 3-pointer from the top of the arc stemmed a New York rally early in the quarter, and six straight points from Wall - highlighted by a 3-pointer from well behind the line as the shot clock expired - extended the lead to double digits. The Knicks missed 5-of-6 free-throw attempts during that stretch, and saw their last attempt at a rally fall short following back-to-back Smith turnovers with under two minutes remaining.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Washington beat New York for just the second time in the last 14 meetings. ... The Wizards spent the final 10:07 of the fourth quarter in the penalty after picking up five quick fouls. ... Smith, who came into the night shooting 68.8 percent from the foul line, missed all four of his free-throw attempts.
