Heat 95, Spurs 88: NBA Finals MVP LeBron James had 37 points and 12 rebounds and reserve Shane Battier was a surprise Game 7 standout with 18 points on six 3-pointers as Miami defeated visiting San Antonio to win its second consecutive NBA title.

Dwyane Wade had 23 points and 10 rebounds and the Heat led for the entire fourth quarter while winning the franchise’s third NBA crown. The Spurs lost an NBA Finals for the first time in five appearances.

Tim Duncan had 24 points and 12 rebounds, Kawhi Leonard added 19 points and 16 rebounds and Manu Ginobili scored 18 points for San Antonio. The Spurs trailed by two in the final minute before Duncan missed a tying shot attempt with 48.9 seconds remaining and could not convert the follow, and San Antonio didn’t score again.

James, who was named MVP for the second straight year, connected on a jumper with 27.9 seconds left to give Miami a 92-88 lead, and Ginobili turned the ball over before James hit two free throws with 23.5 seconds remaining. Wade hit one of two free throws with 16.3 seconds left and Battier got the rebound as the Heat ran out the clock.

James had 15 first-half points as Miami led 46-44 at the break and took a 72-71 lead into the final quarter after a buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Mario Chalmers. Battier drained his fifth 3-pointer 25 seconds into the final stanza, and his sixth gave the Heat an 88-82 advantage with 3:19 to go.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Battier is the first player in NBA Finals history to make six 3-pointers in a Game 7. Only two other players have made six 3-pointers in a Game 7 in any playoff series – Miami’s Tim Hardaway in 1997 and Atlanta’s Joe Johnson in 2009. … Spurs G Danny Green made an NBA Finals record 27 3-pointers but was 1-of-12 shooting in Game 7, including 1-for-6 from behind the arc. … James made five 3-pointers and was 8-for-8 from the line.
