Carmelo Anthony scored 30 points on 10-of-28 shooting and added 10 rebounds as host New York crushed defending champion Miami.

Raymond Felton chipped in 14 points and nine assists and Steve Novak scored 17 off the bench for the Knicks, who hosted the game at Madison Square Garden despite considerable damage caused to parts of the city by superstorm Sandy. Thursday's season opener in Brooklyn had been postponed due to safety concerns.

Giving its fans something to cheer, New York wasted little time jumping on the Heat. Anthony hit a pair of 3-pointers during a 10-0 run in the first quarter and scored 16 points in the frame as the Knicks busted out to a 33-17 lead and never looked back.

New York shot 19 of 36 from 3-point range, led by Novak’s 5-of-8 effort.

The Heat, who questioned the decision to play at Madison Square Garden, turned the ball over 21 times. LeBron James led Miami with 23 points.
