HAWKS 100, KNICKS 90: Joe Johnson scored 28 points, Josh Smith scored 23 and reserve Willie Green tied a season-high with 20 as host Atlanta overcame a huge game from Carmelo Anthony and New York.

The Hawks ended New York’s three-game winning streak and spoiled the return of interim coach Mike Woodson to Atlanta, where he coached from 2004-10.

While Atlanta can expect production from Johnson and Smith, Green was the most surprising player on the court, shooting 8 for 9 and helping the Hawks pull away.

Anthony led the Knicks with 36 points, nine rebounds and five steals. Iman Shumpert had 25 points.

Marvin Williams had 13 points and seven rebounds for the Hawks and Jeff Teague added 11 points and seven assists.

Atlanta took a 52-40 halftime lead as Smith had 17 points, Johnson 12 and Williams 11. Anthony had 19 points on 7-for-12 shooting and four steals in the first half.

Green scored eight points for the Hawks in the third quarter.

Smith made a 3-pointer to get the Knicks to 89-84, but Green led a charge and his 3-pointer put the Hawks back up 94-84 with 3:39 remaining.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Woodson sent shockwaves back to New York when he said pregame that he didn’t know if Jeremy Lin (sore left knee) or Amar'e Stoudemire (back) would play again this season. “I have no idea when these guys are going to return, if they’re going to return. I just don’t know,” Woodson said. … Atlanta was just 2 of 11 on 3-pointers in the first half.
