Brendan Haywood hit the go-ahead basket with 45 seconds remaining in the second overtime session as the Dallas Mavericks outlasted the visiting Portland Trail Blazers 97-94 Saturday night.

After the first extra session settled nothing, Delonte West took charge in the second OT period, scoring six straight Dallas points to give the Mavericks a four-point lead. Portland rallied to tie, but Haywood's tip shot restored the Mavericks' lead and Dirk Nowitzki put the game away on a 16-footer with 16 seconds left.

Portland had one final chance to force a third OT, but Jamal Crawford missed a long 3-point attempt at the buzzer.

Nowitzki led the way with 20 points for the Mavericks, while Jason Terry added 19 off the bench.

LaMarcus Aldridge paced the Trail Blazers with 33 points and 12 rebounds.

After trailing by double digits for most of the opening half, the Trail Blazers chipped away at the deficit in the third quarter. A Gerald Wallace three-point play - accompanied by a Nowitzki technical foul and made free throw - trimmed the gap to six points before the Mavericks rode 3-pointers from Lamar Odom and Vince Carter to a 14-point advantage.

Portland rallied again and was aided when West was given a flagrant foul type one for hitting Wallace in the head. Wallace made both free throws and the Trail Blazers went into the fourth trailing 61-55.

Portland finally drew even on a Raymond Felton 3-pointer with 4:56 remaining, but Jason Kidd knocked down a long jumper and Nowitzki followed with a driving layup to put the Mavericks ahead. Aldridge buried a 12-footer to tie things again with 12 seconds left, and Nowitzki misfired on an 18-footer that would have given Dallas the win.
