Monta Ellis scored 24 of his 27 points in the first half and Stephen Curry scored 21 as the Golden State Warriors earned a 101-97 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Monday night at Oracle Arena.

Joe Lacob, one of Golden State's new owners, called it a dawning of a new day as the Warriors played their first home game since being purchased for $450 million on Friday. It certainly seemed so for the Warriors, who managed just one playoff berth in 15 seasons under former owner Chris Cohan.

Behind Ellis, the Warriors cruised to a 65-33 lead at one point in the first half and were up 65-42 at halftime. But the Pistons whittled away at the huge deficit and got to 98-96 when Tracy McGrady made a basket with 47.8 seconds remaining, but the Warriors held on.

Charlie Villaneuva (18 points) and Ben Gordon (14 points) helped the Pistons rally.

Golden State's Dorell Wright had 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Tayshaun Prince scored 15 for Detroit. Austin Daye had 14, Richard Hamilton 13 and Rodney Stuckey 11.
