Rajon Rondo dished out a career-high 24 assists as part of a triple-double while leading the Boston Celtics to a 105-101 victory over the visiting New York Knicks on Friday night.

Rondo had 10 points and 10 rebounds as Boston improved to 2-1 on the season. Paul Pierce had 25 points and 14 rebounds and Kevin Garnett added 24 points and 10 rebounds.

Amar’e Stoudemire paced New York (1-1) with 27 points and eight rebounds. Wilson Chandler scored 19 points, Raymond Felton added 17 and Landry Fields had 11 points and a team-leading 10 rebounds.

Boston led comfortably for most of the game but New York pulled within two points when Stoudemire nailed a 3-pointer with 17.5 seconds remaining. Pierce hit two free throws two seconds later.

Pierce made four 3-point baskets for Boston, which also got 16 points from reserve forward Glen Davis.
