NEW YORK -- Center Brook Lopez scored 22 points and the Brooklyn Nets pulled away early in the fourth quarter for a 91-83 victory over the Atlanta Hawks in Game 3 of their first-round series on Saturday afternoon.

Rookie forward Bojan Bogdanovic added 19 points and forward Thaddeus Young, who apologized to teammates for having subpar games in Atlanta, added 18.

Six of Young's points came late in the third quarter, when he started Brooklyn's decisive 18-0 run that ensured Monday would not be an elimination game. Atlanta leads the best-of-seven series 2-1.

Forward Joe Johnson added 16 points despite shooting 5 of 17 and the Nets won despite shooting 38.6 percent (32 of 83) and getting a subpar showing from point guard Deron Williams, who was held to three points on 1-of-8 shooting and was on the bench for the final 16 minutes.

Forward DeMarre Carroll led Atlanta with 22 points, and forward Paul Millsap added 18. Center Al Horford and guards Jeff Teague and Kyle Korver combined for 21 points on 8-of-33 shooting.

Atlanta shot 35.6 percent (32 of 90), including 20 percent (6 of 30) from 3-point range.

The Nets led most of the way after an early 10-0 run propelled them to a 31-16 lead through 12 minutes. The Hawks halved that deficit to 47-40 at halftime and chipped away in the third, taking their first lead since the opening possession on a layup by Millsap off a turnover by Williams with 4:10 remaining in the third.

After Millsap's hoop gave them a 60-58 lead, the Hawks went over eight minutes without a basket, missing 13 straight shots. During that span, Young hit three straight hoops as Brooklyn regained the lead, and Johnson knocked an open left-wing 3-pointer that sent the Nets into the fourth with a 67-62 edge.

The Nets expanded it to 76-62 on Lopez's layup with 10:11 remaining but did not score for nearly five minutes until Jarrett Jack hit two free throws. The reserve guard then hit a 3-pointer with 4:52 remaining for an 81-68 cushion.

The Hawks still hung around, getting to within 83-75 on Millsap's 3-pointer with 2:51 remaining before the Nets finished it off.
