J.R. Smith went 8-of-17 from 3-point range - the most attempts in NBA history without a two-point try - en route to 24 points for the Cavaliers, who have a four-game lead on Chicago with five to play. Kevin Love scored 11 points in his return from a back injury and Timofey Mozgov also scored 11 as Cleveland ran its home winning streak to 18 games.

Mike Dunleavy scored 24 points and Aaron Brooks added 17 with seven turnovers as the Bulls saw their lead over Toronto reduced to a game in the race for the third seed. Jimmy Butler had 16 points, Nikola Mirotic chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds and Pau Gasol had 12 points and nine boards for Chicago.

Irving beat the buzzer with a 3-pointer to give Cleveland a 27-23 lead after one quarter and Smith did the same from just inside halfcourt to put the hosts up 54-45 at halftime, finishing his 6-of-8 effort from long range in the opening half. Irving beat the shot clock with a heave from halfcourt to make it 73-60 late in the third, but Gasol scored in the final seconds to get the Bulls within eight going into the fourth.

Smith's eighth triple two minutes into the final period made it 84-71 and Mozgov had two straight dunks midway through to put the Cavaliers up 90-79. Chicago's last push made it a five-point game on Butler's layup with 3:17 left, but Love knocked down Cleveland's 16th 3-pointer with just over a minute on the clock to help seal it.
