Nuggets 103, Jazz 101: Ty Lawson led the way with 15 points and 12 assists as Denver jumped out to a big lead and scrambled down the stretch to hold off host Utah.

Wilson Chandler added 15 points and Arron Afflalo scored 14 before being ejected in the fourth quarter as the Nuggets (9-8) moved above .500 for the first time since winning the opening game of the season. Timofey Mozgov contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds and helped put the game away by blocking a shot with 10 seconds left for Denver.

Gordon Hayward scored 25 points and Alec Burks added 22 and eight rebounds as the Jazz lost their sixth straight. Trey Burke had 18 points and eight assists and Enes Kanter scored 17 while matching a season high with 15 rebounds for Utah.

Afflalo scored five during a 7-0 burst that left the Nuggets on top 90-83 but he was called for a Flagrant 2 foul on Burks and ejected with 5:54 left, and the resulting series of free throws brought the Jazz within 91-88. Utah fought back to tie it twice, the last time at 99 on Hayward’s jumper with 54 seconds left, but Lawson responded with a jumper at the other end and Hayward and Burke both missed before Darrell Arthur sealed it at the line.

The Nuggets gained control with a 13-0 run early in the second quarter to grab a 41-25 lead and were up by as much as 22 before taking a 62-43 edge into the break. Denver held an 18-point cushion with four minutes left in the third before the Jazz made their move, bridging the third and fourth with a 22-4 run to knot it at 83 with 9:56 to play.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Lawson moved past Michael Adams (2,181) and into fourth place on the Nuggets’ all-time assists list. … Utah F Derrick Favors (illness) was sent home from the morning shootaround and is day-to-day. … Arthur scored 12 points to lead the reserves as Denver put seven scorers in double figures.
