Trail Blazers 106, Thunder 89: LaMarcus Aldridge scored 27 points and Wesley Matthews added 22 as Portland stormed past visiting Oklahoma City in the fourth quarter of the season opener for both teams.

Nicolas Batum added 16 points, six assists and five rebounds and Chris Kaman pitched in 12 points off the bench for the Trail Blazers. Damian Lillard scored all 10 of his points in the second half and Robin Lopez added 11 points and 10 rebounds for Portland.

Russell Westbrook scored 38 points to lead the Thunder, but managed just two points in the deciding fourth quarter. Westbrook was forced to step up as Oklahoma City was playing without five-time All Star and last season’s NBA Most Valuable Player Kevin Durant, who is out with a broken foot, as well as five other injured players.

Westbrook started the fourth quarter on the bench and the Trail Blazers took advantage by scoring the first eight points to take a 83-77 lead. He checked back in with 8:40 left and Oklahoma City trailing by four, but Aldridge’s basket stretched the lead to 10 with 5:20 remaining and Matthews sealed the win with his second of back-to-back 3-pointers with 3:01 left to stretch the lead to 16.

Westbrook’s dunk just before the first-half buzzer gave the Thunder a 54-49 halftime lead. Portland managed to tie the score just before the end of the third quarter but Oklahoma City took a two-point edge into the final quarter.
