Timberwolves 107, Spurs 83: Ricky Rubio recorded his first career triple-double with 21 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists as Minnesota surprised visiting San Antonio.

One night after recording a crucial home win over Oklahoma City, the Spurs played without starters Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard and shot 35.4 percent from the field. San Antonio trailed 53-38 at the half after being held to 10 points in the second quarter.

J.J. Barea made five 3-pointers en route to 17 points and Alexey Shved added 16 for the Timberwolves, who won for the second time in their last 10 games. Minnesota shot 53.7 percent from the field and made 12 of its 20 shots from 3-point range.

The Spurs matched their season-low point total and were outrebounded by 10 against a depleted Timberwolves’ frontcourt. Cory Joseph led San Antonio with 15 points and Stephen Jackson had 14 while Tiago Splitter grabbed 11 rebounds.

Derrick Williams chipped in 13 points for Minnesota, which recorded 30 assists and snapped a three-game losing streak to the Spurs.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Duncan and Leonard were rested due to knee soreness. … San Antonio fell to 8-6 in the second game of a back-to-back. …The Spurs used 12 players, with Joseph and Jackson playing a team-high 26 minutes.
