Celtics 107, Hawks 102 (OT): Jason Terry made a go-ahead 3-pointer with 35 seconds left in overtime and scored five of his 19 points in the extra period as host Boston escaped with its fifth straight win.
Paul Pierce scored 27 points and Kevin Garnett added 17 for the Celtics, who won their ninth consecutive home game and avenged a 123-111 double-overtime loss to the Hawks on Jan. 25. Boston’s bench outscored Atlanta’s reserves 46-8.
Josh Smith had 32 points and nine assists for the Hawks, who trailed by 12 points with 6:34 remaining before Kyle Korver’s 3-pointer tied the game at 92 with 1:31 to play. The teams headed to overtime after Smith missed a 17-foot jumper with one second left.
Jeff Teague had 26 points and nine assists and Al Horford contributed 22 points and 13 rebounds for Atlanta, which lost for the first time in five overtime games this season. Boston's win moved the Celtics into a tie with the Hawks for the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race.
The Celtics, who shot 51.3 percent from the field and made 10 of their 20 shots from 3-point range, improved to 15-4 since losing point guard Rajon Rondo to a season-ending knee injury.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Including the postseason, the Celtics have won 15 of the last 17 games against Atlanta at TD Garden . … Boston had just two offensive rebounds and was outrebounded 41-35. …. The Celtics improved to 7-4 in overtime this season.
