Juan Soto hit one of four San Diego homers and drove in three runs while Joe Musgrove continued his stellar pitching as the Padres coasted to a 9-1 victory over the host Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series.

Manny Machado, Gary Sanchez and Trent Grisham also homered for the Padres, who won for only the fourth time in their past 16 road games. Soto and Machado had two hits apiece while Sanchez and Jake Cronenworth each had two RBIs.

Musgrove (9-2) gave up one run and five hits over six innings. He struck out seven and walked one while improving to 8-0 over his last 10 starts.

Bo Bichette had two hits for Toronto, which had a four-game winning streak halted. The setback was just the Blue Jays' second in 10 games.

Toronto's Alek Manoah (2-8) allowed four runs and three hits in three-plus innings. He walked five and struck out none while throwing 92 pitches before exiting.

San Diego started fast as Fernando Tatis Jr. drew a one-out walk in the first and Soto capped a nine-pitch at-bat with a blast to left center off Manoah. It was Soto's 17th home run of the season.

Toronto got a run in the bottom of the first as George Springer and Bichette led off with singles and Matt Chapman drove in Springer with a two-out single.

Tatis and Soto hit back-to-back doubles to start the third to give the Padres a 3-1 lead. Soto scored later in the inning on Cronenworth's sacrifice fly.

Machado led off the fifth with his 18th homer, a blast to left off Nate Pearson. Two outs later, Sanchez went deep for the ninth time since joining the club in late May to make it 6-1.

Grisham drilled a one-out homer in the eighth to make it a six-run margin. It was his 10th homer of the campaign.

In the ninth, Cronenworth hit an RBI double, and Sanchez had a sacrifice fly.
