Matt Moore pitched six hitless innings and combined with three relievers on a three-hitter as the Philadelphia Phillies posted a 6-1 win over the visiting Cincinnati Reds on Saturday.

Moore (2-3) allowed just two baserunners and had a season-high eight strikeouts. He threw 48 of 76 pitches for strikes.

Moore walked Joey Votto to open the second but got an inning-ending double play on Eugenio Suarez. He gave up a two-out free pass to Nicholas Castellanos in the fourth but ended the frame by striking out Votto with a changeup.

Moore then quickly got through the fifth and sixth and ended his outing by getting Jonathan India to chase a breaking ball in the dirt.

Hector Neris breezed through the seventh and ended it by fanning Votto. After allowing Tyler Stephenson's homer, Archie Bradley allowed a two-out single to Tyler Naquin but ended the eighth by retiring Mike Moustakas. Ian Kennedy got the final three outs to preserve the win.

The Phillies came within six outs of completing the eighth no-hitter in baseball this season and first since Zach Davies and four relievers combined on a no-no for the Chicago Cubs on June 24 at Dodger Stadium.

Philadelphia lost its bid for its 14th no-hitter in team history and first since Cole Hamels on July 25, 2015 against the Cubs at Wrigley Field when Stephenson opened the eighth with a homer.

According to STATS, Stephenson became the first Red to end a no-hit bid with a homer in the eighth inning or later since Hall of Famer Johnny Bench on April 15, 1978 against Houston's Mark Lemongello.

Naquin and Kyle Farmer got the other hits for Cincinnati.

Ronald Torreyes homered in the third inning, J.T. Realmuto ripped an RBI double in the sixth and pinch hitter Travis Jankowski hit a run-scoring single in the seventh.

Bryce Harper accounted for two runs in the eighth when he tripled and scored on a throwing error by Farmer. Andrew McCutchen capped the scoring with a homer in the eighth.

Cincinnati's Luis Castillo (6-12) allowed three runs on five hits in 6 2/3 innings to take the loss.
