Patrick Wisdom had three hits, Johneshwy Fargas finished with two hits and the Chicago Cubs beat the Colorado Rockies 3-2 in Denver on Wednesday night.

Rookie Manuel Rodriguez pitched the ninth for his first career save. All but one starting position player reached base for Chicago, which had lost five of its previous seven games.

Brendan Rodgers had three hits and Raimel Tapia and Ryan McMahon also had two hits apiece for the Rockies. Colorado pounded out 10 hits but never more than one in an inning after the first.

The game was delayed after the top of the first when home plate umpire Kerwin Danley developed back spasms and was helped off the field. Danley walked slowly off the field with the help of two Colorado trainers and was limping.

He received medical treatment and it was announced he would not work the series finale on Thursday.

The rest of the game was played with just three umpires, with Roberto Ortiz moving from second base to behind the plate.

The Rockies jumped out in front in the bottom of the first inning. Tapia and Rodgers led off with doubles to score the first run. Rodgers moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a groundout by Charlie Blackmon.

Starter Alec Mills (5-4) settled down after the first. He went six innings, giving up two runs, allowing eight hits, walking two and fanning three to get his first win in four weeks.

The Cubs rallied in the fifth inning after Gray retired the first two batters. Rafael Ortega and Willson Contreras singled and Ian Happ walked. Wisdom hit a ball to the wall in left that Tapia had in his glove, but the ball popped out when Tapia made contact with the fence. The three-run double gave Chicago a 3-2 lead.

Gray (7-7) allowed three runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out six in six innings.
