Giants 5, Padres 4

Brandon Crawford, Wilmer Flores and Mike Yastrzemski homered on Friday afternoon and the host San Francisco Giants held off a seventh-inning San Diego rally to score a 5-4 victory in the first game of a doubleheader.

All three home runs came off Padres starter Chris Paddack (4-5).

The win kept the 29-28 Giants alive in the race for one of the final two wild-card berths in the National League playoffs.

Although the 34-23 Padres lost a third straight game and fell to 2-6 over their last eight games, they clinched the No. 4 seed and homefield for all three games of the first round of the playoffs when St. Louis lost the first game of a doubleheader in Milwaukee.

Left-hander Tyler Anderson held the Padres to two runs on five hits over six innings before leaving when Jurickson Profar opened the seventh with a double. Anderson issued four walks and struck out four Padres while improving to 4-3.

The Padres scored three in the final inning on an RBI single by Fernando Tatis Jr., a throwing error by reliever Tony Watson and a sacrifice fly by Eric Hosmer.

The Padres took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Austin Nola singled and scored from first on Tommy Pham's double off the wall in left-center.

The Giants tied the game in the bottom of the second on shortstop Crawford's homer to straight-away center, his seventh of the season.

The Giants then scored four in the bottom of the fourth off Paddack.

Flores opened the inning with his 10th homer to break the 1-1 tie.

Evan Longoria followed with a double but was still at third with two out when Joey Bart drove an opposite-field single past first baseman Hosmer to make it 3-1. Yastrzemski then pulled a two-run homer just inside the right-field foul pole.

Paddack was charged with five runs on eight hits and a walk with three strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. It marked the second time this season that he allowed three homers in a start.

Trent Grisham tripled to open the third for the Padres but failed to score.
