Mallex Smith scored from second base on pinch hitter Tim Lopes' infield single in the top of the 13th inning and gave the visiting Seattle Mariners a 7-6 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday night.

Smith started the game-winning rally with two outs in the 13th by reaching on pitcher Tanner Scott's error. Scott (1-1) couldn't catch a toss from second baseman Hanser Alberto on Smith's grounder.

Then, Smith stole second with Lopes up. Lopes followed with an infield single to third baseman Rio Ruiz. While Ruiz was throwing late to first, Smith kept on going and beat Trey Mancini's throw home.

Dan Altavilla (2-1) earned the victory thanks to a scoreless 12th. Erik Swanson closed it in the 13th and picked up his second save although Baltimore put a runner on third with two outs.

Justus Sheffield went 4 1/3 innings in his start for Seattle and gave up four runs on five hits. The left-hander struck out five and walked one.

Asher Wojciechowski started for the Orioles and got a no-decision also, going 4 1/3 innings and giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits.

The Orioles took an early lead thanks to three runs in the second inning. Stevie Wilkerson had an RBI double, and Richie Martin added a two-run double that made it 3-0.

Seattle cut the lead to 3-1 when Shed Long led off the top of the third inning with a home run. Then, in the fifth, Long scored on a J.P. Crawford single. Later that inning, the Mariners tied it on a Pedro Severino passed ball.

But Baltimore took the lead back in the bottom of the fifth on an Alberto RBI single. The Orioles loaded the bases with no outs in that inning but could not score any more and left the fifth with a 4-3 lead.

Seattle then took the lead when Crawford belted a three-run homer to right in the top of the eighth. Austin Hays pulled the Orioles back into a 6-6 tie when he lined a two-run homer to left-center in the bottom of the frame.
