Anthony Santander hit a three-run homer, and Keon Broxton added a two-run shot later as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the visiting Boston Red Sox 11-2 in the opener of a weekend series Friday night.

The Orioles' offense has awakened in the past two games. They defeated Washington 9-2 on Wednesday night and then banged out the two homers and 14 hits in this contest to win a second straight game.

This offense gave All-Star left-hander John Means a big cushion. Means (8-5) allowed two runs on four hits in six innings and kept the Red Sox quiet despite having to work out of a few jams.

David Price (7-3) always had success in Baltimore, winning all eight of his decisions at Camden Yards before this game, but he gave up two homers and six runs on eight hits in four innings as the Red Sox fell into an early hole.

Also for Boston, Mookie Betts saw his streak of 13 consecutive games scoring a run -- which tied Ted Williams for the club record -- come to an end.

The Orioles took a quick lead when Santander belted his three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. He hit a shot to center that put Baltimore in front 3-0.

Boston answered in the top of the second when Sam Travis hit the first homer this season -- and just the second of his career -- a two-run shot that cut the lead to 3-2.

The Orioles used power to stretch the lead out again. In the second inning, Richie Martin tripled to right, but J.D. Martinez booted the ball when trying to field it. That let Martin come all the way around and gave Baltimore a 4-2 lead.

Then, in the fourth, the Orioles made it 6-2 when Broxton hit his two-run homer. Colten Brewer took over for Price in the fifth, and Stevie Wilkerson added a sacrifice fly.

Martin made it 8-2 when he drove in a run, also in the fifth, on a force play. Then, in the seventh, Jonathan Villar added a two-run single that gave Baltimore a 10-2 lead. Broxton also scored on an error in the seventh.
