Edwin Encarnacion hit two home runs, the latter the 400th of his major league career, as the Seattle Mariners defeated the host Los Angeles Angels 9-3 on Sunday afternoon.

Encarnacion is the 56th player to reach the 400-homer plateau and the third active player after Albert Pujols and Miguel Cabrera.

Tom Murphy also homered twice, and Daniel Vogelbach and Kyle Seager added solo shots for the Mariners, who took two of three games in the series. Seattle had lost six straight series since taking both games of a two-game set with visiting Oakland on May 13-14.

The Mariners used an opener for the third time this season, with right-hander Austin Adams pitching a perfect first inning -- striking out both Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani.

Left-hander Wade LeBlanc (3-2) entered in the second and went six innings, allowing two runs on six hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.

Angels left-hander Jose Suarez (1-1), who won his major league debut a week earlier at Seattle, allowed two runs on four hits in 4 2/ 3 innings, with two walks and six strikeouts.

The Mariners opened the scoring in the second on Murphy's two-run homer to left field.

The Angels got a run back in the third as Tommy La Stella hit a solo shot to center field with two outs.

The Mariners broke the game open with three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh.

Encarnacion and Vogelbach led off the sixth with back-to-back homers off Cody Allen, who was then replaced by fellow right-hander Nick Tropeano. Tim Beckham greeted Tropeano by lining a double to left field, and Seager followed with a run-scoring single to make it 5-1.

With one out in the seventh, Domingo Santana lined a single to left, and Encarnacion followed with a two-run shot to center on a 3-2 pitch from Tropeano to increase the lead to 7-1. It was Encarnacion's 20th homer of the season, the most in the American League.

The Angels scored in the bottom of the inning on Luis Rengifo's sacrifice fly.

Murphy led off the eighth with a homer to left off Tropeano.

Cesar Puello's run-scoring single in the bottom of the inning made it 8-3.

Seager's solo shot off Tropeano in the ninth capped the scoring.
