Jason Castro, Eddie Rosario and Jorge Polanco hit home runs, Martin Perez recorded a career-best nine strikeouts, and the visiting Minnesota Twins defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 8-0 Monday night.

Perez (5-0) held the Blue Jays to two hits and two walks in seven innings. Ryne Harper pitched a perfect eighth inning, and Matt Magill got around a single in the bottom of the ninth to complete the shutout.

Castro had two hits and three RBIs, and Polanco and Nelson Cruz each had three hits in the opener of a three-game series.

Castro left the game in the ninth inning due to a bruised right elbow after being hit by a pitch in the eighth. He was listed as day-to-day.

Toronto right-hander Marcus Stroman (1-5) lasted 4 2/3 innings, allowing eight hits, two walks and six runs (five earned) while striking out two.

Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo was ejected in the bottom of the fifth after Brandon Drury was called out on strikes. It was his first ejection as a major league manager.

The Twins scored an unearned run in the first. Polanco and Cruz hit one-out singles. The runners advanced when shortstop Freddy Galvis was charged with an error on Stroman's pickoff attempt at second base. Polanco scored on Rosario's groundout to second.

In the second inning, Jonathan Schoop doubled before Castro hit his fourth homer of the season.

The Twins took a 5-0 lead in a two-run fourth. Marwin Gonzalez led off with a walk, took third on Schoop's double and scored on Castro's groundout. Byron Buxton hit an RBI single.

Rosario hit his 12th homer of the season with two outs in the fifth, prompting the Blue Jays to replace Stroman with Daniel Hudson.

Polanco hit his sixth homer this season with one out in the seventh off Hudson.

In the ninth, Toronto's Joe Biagini allowed a walk to Jake Cave and a double to Polanco before being replaced by Thomas Pannone, who gave up Rosario's sacrifice fly.
