Trevor Williams pitched six shutout innings, and Corey Dickerson had three hits, scored two runs and drove in another as the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates outlasted the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Miller Park in the finale of a three-game series.

Williams (13-9) surrendered just two hits and two walks while striking out seven. He bounced back in a big way from his last outing, when he gave up four runs in five innings against St. Louis while equaling the total runs he'd allowed in his previous nine starts.

Felipe Vazquez allowed back-to-back home runs to Jesus Aguilar and pinch hitter Domingo Sanchez with none out in the ninth before earning his 34th save for the Pirates.

The Pirates (74-74 and in fourth place in the NL Central) continue to be a thorn in the side of playoff-hopeful Milwaukee (85-65). The loss left the Brewers 2 1/2 games back of the Cubs in the NL Central but still holding onto a three-game lead over the Rockies for the top wild-card spot.

After opening the series with a 7-4 victory Friday night, the Brewers couldn't do much in the final two games of the series, mustering just a combined three runs in two losses. Sunday's defeat was Milwaukee's 11th in 16 meetings with the Pirates this season and the 10th time Pittsburgh's pitching held the Brewers to three or fewer runs.

Jhoulys Chacin (14-8) took the loss but pitched well enough to win, allowing two runs while scattering three hits and three walks over five innings of work. Chacin, the first of five Milwaukee pitchers, struck out four.

The Pirates took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Kevin Newman's sacrifice fly to center was deep enough to allow Dickerson to scoot home from third base.

Pittsburgh added to its advantage in the fourth as Dickerson ripped a single to left field that plated Josh Bell. Then, in the ninth, Newman singled home Dickerson, who had doubled with two out, with a key insurance run.
