Carlos Gonzalez hit a three-run home run in his four-RBI night, and the Colorado Rockies hammered the Cincinnati Reds 9-6 Tuesday at Great American Ball Park.

Colorado starter Kyle Freeland pitched into the seventh inning for his sixth win of the season, helping the Rockies snap a four-game losing streak. The Reds have lost three in a row.

Reds right-hander Anthony DeSclafani was making his first start of the season. After missing all of last year with an arm injury, he began this year on the 60-day disable list with a left oblique strain. He got into trouble early against the Rockies.

The first four Colorado batters reached base in a two-run first inning, highlighted by an RBI triple by Charlie Blackmon and a run-scoring infield single by Gonzalez, the first of his three hits on the night.

Chris Iannetta's fifth home run of the season -- a blast to right field on an 0-2 count -- plated Ian Desmond and made it 4-0 after two innings.

DeSclafani settled down for a few innings, at one point retiring eight of nine Rockies from the third through the fifth innings, before exiting.

Scott Schebler hit a solo home run in the fifth inning for the Reds, cutting the Rockies' lead to 4-1, but Cincinnati's bullpen couldn't keep the Reds in the game.

Austin Brice gave up two runs in the sixth inning, surrendering an RBI single to Gerardo Parra and walking Freeland with the bases loaded.

Gonzalez put things out of reach with his home run to center in the seventh inning off Wandy Peralta to make it 9-1.

Tucker Barnhart hit a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh, ending Freeland's outing.

Freeland allowed three runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts and just one walk.

The Reds scored three times in the ninth off Rockies reliever Bryan Shaw and had runners on second and third before Colorado closer Wade Davis came in with two outs and struck out Schebler to end the game.

Jon Gray is slated to start for the Rockies in the second game of the three-game series on Wednesday. The Reds will counter with Sal Romano.
