LOS ANGELES - The Colorado Rockies are the latest team to start puffing out its chest, while playing the team with the best record in baseball.

The Rockies rallied for a 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium on Friday to help eliminate the bitter aftertaste of a disappointing 3-6 homestand that ended this week.

Over the last two weeks, the Arizona Diamondbacks have swept the Dodgers twice. The San Diego Padres won three of four last weekend, including a sweep of a day-night-doubleheader. Now the Rockies are continuing the trend.

Excuse the Rockies if they have started to look toward Sunday and the potential completion of a four-game sweep in Los Angeles.

The Dodgers have lost a season-high eight consecutive games, while dropping 13 of their last 14. They remain a baseball-best 92-49, but have not won consecutive games since Aug. 24 and 25.

Dodgers starter Yu Darvish has watched the team's entire turnaround happen on fast-forward. When he arrived in a trade from the Texas Rangers at the start of August, the Dodgers were piling up victories with ease. Darvish himself cruised in his Aug. 4 debut with the Dodgers, firing seven scoreless innings at the New York Mets.

Three weeks later, the Dodgers turned into a complete shell of themselves as they started a two-week stretch that appears as if it will never end.

"The first couple of weeks when I joined the team it was great, playing really good baseball and I was surprised that everything we would do was working," Darvish said through an interpreter. "Right now it's on the opposite side. The team is not playing well, but the guys are working hard and it amazes me how hard they are working to get a win."

Darvish had a chance to make a difference Friday, but he couldn't get out of the fifth inning.

Charlie Blackmon and DJ LeMahieu hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the fifth to give the Rockies the lead for good. They were the only hits of the night for the dynamic duo, but they did plenty of damage.

Darvish (2-3) went 4 1/3 innings, giving up his five runs on five hits, with two walks and six strikeouts.

Rockies starter German Marquez rebounded from a rough first inning to hold the Dodgers scoreless over the next three. Four Rockies relievers then kept the Dodgers without a run the rest of the way, with Greg Holland picking up his 38th save.

Chris Rusin (5-0) picked up the victory with two scoreless innings.

The Dodgers fell into an early 1-0 hole after a home run by the Rockies' Carlos Gonzalez, but they found a way to respond this time.

The Dodgers' Justin Turner had an answer with a home run of his own, a two-run shot in the first inning that was his 19th of the season. Later in the inning, backup catcher Austin Barnes delivered a two-run single. That gave the Dodgers a 4-1 lead.

"That first inning, you saw the fight," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. "(Turner) the big homer and the two-out hit by Austin was huge. I think if you look at tonight, there were a couple of opportunity situations where we didn't capitalize."

Darvish started to take control, striking two in the second inning and two more in the third. On his strikeout of Gonzalez in the fourth inning, he reached the 1,000-strikeout plateau, becoming the fastest in major league history to do so.

Darvish was not only the fastest to 1,000 in games (128), he was also quickest in innings (812). Now in his fifth major league season, Darvish pitched for the Texas Rangers until the trade deadline this season when he was moved to the Dodgers.

"It did not mean much for me today," Darvish said about his milestone 1,000th strikeout. "We want to win. I want to go deep into the game. Those are the goals I have. Those guys came in and congratulated me, which was great, but at the same time, my goal is not that."

Things started to unravel for Darvish and the Dodgers in the fifth inning. A one-out double from Alexi Amarista was followed by a walk to Jonathan Lucroy. After a wild pitch moved the runners up a base, pinch hitter Raimel Tapia delivered a two-run double to cut the Dodgers lead to 4-3.

"That's exactly what we need," Gonzalez said. "After they scored those four runs and we were down by three, they didn't do much offensively, and that was exactly our time."

The Rockies put an end to Darvish's day in the fifth inning with the RBI doubles from Blackmon and LeMahieu, grabbing a 5-4 lead in the process.

"We can put some runs on the board, there's no doubt about it," Gonzalez said. "At the same time, whenever we have good pitching, just the way we did (Thursday), and today after that ugly (inning) when they scored four runs, we shut them down. That gives us confidence to keep pushing and don't give up."

Turner and Barnes not only had the Dodgers' only RBIs of the night, each finished with two hits. Five Dodgers relievers combined to keep the Rockies scoreless over the final 4 2/3 innings.

Struggling Dodgers right-hander Pedro Baez struck out the side in his only inning, responding well after he was booed by a sold-out crowd when he entered the game.

"I absolutely think it's ridiculous," Roberts said of the crowd's reaction to Baez. "As passionate as our fans are, as knowledgeable, I think it's irresponsible. I think it's ridiculous that this guy who grew up as a Dodger, and has done nothing but compete and continue to grow, he gets booed at home. That's something that really pissed me off tonight."
