MIAMI -- Christian Yelich hit a two-out, walk-off double in the 12th inning to lead the Miami Marlins to a 4-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates at Marlins Park on Thursday night.

Martin Prado scored on the Yelich's hit. On the previous play, Prado nearly hit into an inning-ending double play. But his hustle down the line kept the inning alive.

Rookie reliever Nick Wittgren (1-0) pitched three scoreless innings to earn his first career win. A.J. Schugel took the loss.

The Marlins were one strike away from winning the game in the ninth inning. But John Jaso hit a run-scoring single on a 3-2 pitch from reliever Kyle Barraclough, who was attempting to lock down what would have been his first career save.

Still, Miami (29-25) prevailed, taking three out of four games in the series against Pittsburgh (29-24).

The Pirates lost four starters during the game due to injuries -- catcher Francisco Cervelli (right foot), center fielder Andrew McCutchen (right thumb), first baseman David Freese (right wrist) and shortstop Jordy Mercer (left elbow). All but McCutchen were hit by pitches.

Cervelli was replaced by Chris Stewart. McCutchen was replaced by Sean Rodriguez. Freese was replaced by Jaso. Mercer was replaced by Cole Figueroa.

Miami starter Wei-Yin Chen pitched six no-hit innings. He had his no-hit bid broken up when Jung Ho Kang hit a double to lead off the seventh. Kang hit a 3-1 pitch on a line to left.

Joining Adam Conley, it was the second night in a row in which a Marlins pitcher had held the Pirates hitless for at least 5 2/3 innings.

After Kang's hit and a walk to Stewart, Chen was removed. Reliever Dustin McGowan got two outs but allowed a two-run double by Matt Joyce. It was Joyce's second two-RBI hit in as many games.

Chen's final line: six-plus innings, one hit, three walks and two runs.

Marlins center fielder Ichiro Suzuki, 42, who needs 35 hits to reach 3,000 in the majors, had a big game with two hits, one walk, one steal, one run scored and two impressive grabs.

Suzuki made a sliding catch with two outs and the bases loaded in the second inning, robbing Pirates pitcher Juan Nicasio of what likely would have been a two-run single.

In the fourth, Suzuki raced back to the center-field wall and took extra bases away from Kang.

Miami scored in the second inning on the strength of two dynamic plays. Adeiny Hechavarria lofted a one-out triple that fell just inside the line in right field before scoring on No. 8 hitter Miguel Rojas's suicide squeeze.

The Marlins extended their lead to 3-0 in the third. Suzuki hit a leadoff single, advanced on Yelich's one-out single and scored on Giancarlo Stanton's double to right. After Justin Bour was walked intentionally to load the bases, J.T. Realmuto capped the inning with a sacrifice fly.

NOTES: Pirates RF Gregory Polanco (left foot) missed his second straight start. ... Marlins 2B Derek Dietrich, who suffered a bone bruise to his left wrist Wednesday, didn't start. ... Marlins RF Giancarlo Stanton, who played Wednesday for the first time in more than a week, wasn't in Thursday's original lineup after experiencing more soreness on his right side. Two hours before first pitch, though, Stanton was announced as a starter and Cole Gillespie was scratched. ... Marlins CF Marcell Ozuna, who batted .411 in May but is hitless in his past nine at-bats, was given Thursday's start off as a rest day. ... After the first round of fan balloting, neither Pittsburgh nor Miami have position players in the top four at any spot. ... By using LHP Mike Dunn on Wednesday, the Marlins ended a three-week stretch of not having used a lefty reliever. For Dunn, it was his first career stint on the disabled list.
