MILWAUKEE -- Jayson Heyward and Jhonny Peralta hit their second home runs of the season and Carlos Martinez pitched seven shutout innings as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers 3-0 on Friday night at Miller Park.

Peralta also had two singles for a 3-for-4 night.

Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter had two hits, including a ground-rule double to lead off the seventh inning, to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.

Martinez improved to 2-0, limiting Milwaukee to four hits and two walks while striking out eight.

Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina left the game for precautionary reasons after getting hit on the right knee by a foul tip in the fourth inning . He is considered day to day.

Right-hander Trevor Rosenthal pitched a perfect ninth for his seventh save of the season.

Both St. Louis home runs came off Brewers right-hander Matt Garza, who worked six innings and allowed seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts.

Garza breezed through the first inning, needing just nine pitches. But he found himself in a jam in the second, giving up a leadoff single to first baseman Matt Adams, who gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead when he scored on a groundout by Molina.

Hayward doubled the margin with a two-out solo shot in the third.

Milwaukee went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and stranded five runners.

Bad base-running doomed the Brewers in the early innings.

Milwaukee had runners at first and second with one out in the first, but Ryan Braun was caught trying to advance to second on Adam Lind's fly to center.

In the third, Garza wandered too far off second base and was caught trying to take third during an inning that ended with Jean Segura trying to swipe second on a Gerardo Parra strikeout.
