Mariners 3, Rays 0: Robinson Cano knocked in a pair of runs and five pitchers shut down struggling Tampa Bay as visiting Seattle took three of four in the series.

James Jones recorded three hits and Willie Bloomquist added two while each scored a run as the Mariners won for the eighth time in nine games. Joe Beimel (1-1) retired two batters to get the victory after starter Erasmo Ramirez allowed four hits, five walks and struck out five over 4 2/3 innings.

Kevin Kiermaier and James Loney hit doubles for the Rays, who left 10 on base and dropped to 1-13 in their last 14 contests. Tampa Bay starter David Price (4-6) yielded three runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out 10 as he extended his winless streak to five starts.

The Mariners loaded the bases in the third inning before Cano lined a 0-2 pitch to left field for a two-run double and Stefen Romero’s groundout made it 3-0. Tampa Bay put the first two batters on in the fourth, but Ramirez struck out two and got a nifty play from Cano on Desmond Jennings’ groundout to end the threat.

Dominic Leone retired the only two batters he faced and Danny Farquhar escaped a two-on, one-out jam by getting Loney to ground into a double play in the seventh. Farquhar pitched a perfect eighth inning to bridge the gap to Fernando Rodney, who worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his 18th save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Cano’s double in the third inning extended his road hitting streak to 18 games. … Seattle, which finished its road trip 6-1, improved to 17-9 against left-handed starters and 7-1 on Mondays. … Tampa Bay RHP Grant Balfour was removed from the closer’s role after giving up five runs in the ninth inning of Sunday’s 5-0 loss to the Mariners. Manager Joe Maddon told reporters the Rays will close by committee right now.
