Rangers 14, Athletics 8: Donnie Murphy homered twice and had three RBIs while Adrian Beltre and Robinson Chirinos also drove in three runs apiece as visiting Texas defeated Oakland in the opener of a three-game series.

Michael Choice and Chirinos also homered and the Rangers had 16 hits overall while matching a season high for runs and winning for the fourth time in five games. Chirinos and Rougned Odor had three hits apiece while Elvis Andrus, Alex Rios and Daniel Robertson each had two for Texas while Yoenis Cespedes drove in four runs for the Athletics, who had 15 hits.

Colby Lewis (5-4) recorded the victory despite allowing five runs and 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings. Oakland starter Drew Pomeranz (5-4) was torched for eight runs (seven earned) and eight hits in 3 2/3 innings as the Athletics allowed their most runs of the season.

Oakland trailed by eight runs after 4 1/2 innings before using a solo homer by Brandon Moss, a run-scoring double by Coco Crisp, a three-run homer by Cespedes and Alberto Callaspo’s RBI single over a three-inning stretch to pull within 11-8. The Rangers pushed across an unearned run in the eighth inning and Murphy and Chirinos belted back-to-back homers to start the ninth to finish the assault.

The Athletics scored the first two runs before Texas scored the next 10, beginning with Chirinos’ two-run single in the second. Murphy hit his first homer – a two-run shot – and Beltre delivered a two-run double in a six-run fourth-inning uprising while Choice hit a two-run blast in the fifth to make it 10-2.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Athletics OF Josh Reddick (knee) is expected to begin a rehab stint at Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday and could rejoin Oakland early next week. … Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo was hitless in four at-bats and is 5-for-45 in June. … Callaspo went 4-for-5 and was activated from the paternity list prior to the game, while INF Andy Parrino was optioned to Sacramento in a corresponding move.
