Rangers 4, Athletics 3: Kevin Kouzmanoff recorded two hits, an RBI and scored on Donnie Murphy’s go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning as visiting Texas rallied past Oakland in the opener of a three-game series.

Prince Fielder collected two hits and an RBI, Alex Rios had two singles and Shin-Soo Choo homered for the Rangers before leaving in the seventh inning with a left ankle injury. Neal Cotts (1-1) retired three batters while allowing one hit for the victory and Joakim Soria worked around a one-out error to earn his fourth save.

Coco Crisp was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and Brandon Moss belted a solo homer for Oakland, which saw its three-game win streak end. Reliever Sean Doolittle (0-1) gave up a run and two hits in two-thirds of an inning to suffer the loss as the Athletics failed to score in their final seven at-bats.

Choo drilled the fifth pitch of the game over the right-field fence, but Oakland responded with three runs in the second. Moss hit Texas starter Yu Darvish’s first offering into the right-field seats and Crisp slapped a two-out, two-run single to left field as the Athletics took a 3-1 advantage after two frames.

Fielder doubled and scored on Kouzmanoff’s single in the fourth and later ripped a two-out RBI single to right in the fifth to tie the game at 3-3. Kouzmanoff doubled to lead off the eighth, moved to third on Mitch Moreland’s sacrifice bunt and scored on Murphy’s base hit to center through the drawn-in infield for a 4-3 lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Darvish allowed three runs on eight hits, struck out six and threw 116 pitches over six innings while Oakland starter RHP Dan Straily yielded three runs on six hits in five frames with six strikeouts. … Crisp stole his 146th and 147th bases in an Oakland uniform, passing Carney Lansford (146) for fourth on the franchise’s all-time list. … Kouzmanoff was named American League Player of the Week on Monday after going 10-for-29 with two homers, four RBIs and eight RBIs in seven games.
