Yankees 6, Blue Jays 4: Carlos Beltran drove in a pair of runs and scored another while David Phelps tossed seven solid innings as host New York completed a three-game sweep of Toronto.

Jacoby Ellsbury scored twice and joined Kelly Johnson by recording a sacrifice fly as the Yankees posted their 16th straight home victory over the Blue Jays and moved within 1 1/2 games of Toronto in the American League East. Ellsbury, Mark Teixeira and Derek Jeter each had two hits and Yangervis Solarte drew a bases-loaded walk in the victory.

Former Yankee Melky Cabrera and Edwin Encarnacion each belted a two-run homer for Toronto, which was swept for the first time this season and has dropped nine of its last 12.

After Cabrera's 11th homer forged a 2-2 tie in the third, Beltran regained the lead for New York by plating Ellsbury with the team's third sacrifice fly in as many innings. Beltran extended the lead in the fifth by belting a ground-rule double to left off Aaron Loup, who relieved Drew Hutchison (5-5) after the starter was charged with four runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Phelps (3-4) improved to 3-0 in his career versus the Blue Jays after allowing two runs on six hits and striking out seven. Encarnacion launched a towering homer off Shawn Kelley in the eighth to trim New York's lead to 6-4, but Adam Warren retired both batters he faced to secure his second save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Cabrera extended his hitting streak versus New York to 19 games with a single in the first inning. ... The Yankees won a challenge in the first after Cabrera was originally ruled to be safe on a pickoff play at second base. Officials reviewed the play and promptly reversed the call. ... New York RF Ichiro Suzuki singled in the second inning for his 2,782nd hit in the majors, moving past Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. into 49th place all-time.
