Mariners 4, Yankees 2: Robinson Cano had two RBIs and Roenis Elias struck out a career-best 10 in seven innings as visiting Seattle defeated New York to sweep the abbreviated two-game set.

Michael Saunders went 3-for-4 with an RBI as the Mariners won for the fifth time in six games. Cano, who left the Yankees for Seattle as a free agent in the offseason, went 1-for-4 and drove in runs on a first-inning double and a third-inning fielder’s choice.

Elias (2-2) allowed two runs – one earned – on six hits and two walks before departing after 110 pitches. Yoervis Medina worked a perfect eighth and Fernando Rodney allowed a two-out single in the ninth to Ichiro Suzuki before striking out Brett Gardner for his sixth save.

After Cano put Seattle ahead in the top of the first, New York’s Jacoby Ellsbury led off the bottom of the inning with a tying homer. The fielder’s choice by Cano pushed across an unearned run against Hiroki Kuroda (2-3), who allowed four runs (three earned) and seven hits in six innings.

Brad Miller delivered a run-scoring single and Saunders doubled home a run in the fourth to give the Mariners a 4-1 advantage. Brian McCann slapped a single to left in the sixth to pull the Yankees within two.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Cano went 2-for-9 with three RBIs in his first trip back to Yankee Stadium in a series that was shortened from three games to two due to Wednesday’s rain postponement. The game will be made up on June 2 on a scheduled off-day for both teams. … Ellsbury (hand) was in the lineup for the first time since Sunday and the homer was his first since joining New York. … Mariners All-Star RHP Hisashi Iwakuma (finger) is expected to make his season debut on Saturday against the Houston Astros.
