Matt Holliday and Jhonny Peralta each added two hits and an RBI while Jon Jay went 2-for-3 and scored three runs as the Cardinals won their fourth straight and seventh in eight games. Nick Greenwood (1-0) allowed one run and two hits over 3 1/3 innings to notch the win in his major-league debut in relief of Carlos Martinez, who gave up an unearned run over four frames in a spot start, and Seth Maness recorded the final four outs for his second career save.

Curtis Granderson and Chris Young each drove in a run for the Mets, who managed only five hits in losing for the 10th time in 13 contests. Rookie Jacob deGrom (0-4) was tagged for six runs and 12 hits in 4 1/3 innings in the loss.

Craig's RBI single in the first gave the Cardinals an early lead, but Granderson answered with a sacrifice fly in the third to tie it. Adams put St. Louis ahead for good with a run-scoring single in the third and the Cardinals broke it open with four in the fifth.

St. Louis batted around in the big inning and had six straight hitters reach base. Holliday ignited the rally with an RBI single and scored on Craig's double before Adams delivered a run-scoring triple and came home on Peralta's base hit to cap the outburst.
