Nationals 6, Mets 3: Wilson Ramos drove in four runs as host Washington defeated New York to take two of three in the series.
Ian Desmond homered and Anthony Rendon reached base four times on a single and three walks as the Nationals won for the fourth time in six games. Juan Centeno had two RBIs for the Mets, who have lost four of five games.
Jordan Zimmermann (3-1) allowed three runs and eight hits in six innings for Washington. Drew Storen and Tyler Clippard each pitched a perfect inning and Rafael Soriano followed suit with a flawless ninth for his 10th save.
Centeno put New York ahead in the second with a run-scoring ground single before Desmond tied it in the bottom of the inning with a blast to left against Zack Wheeler (1-4). A two-out error by Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada kept the third inning alive and Ramos took advantage with a two-run double that short-hopped the wall in left-center.
Ramos stroked a two-run single to left in the fifth to increase the margin to 5-1. Juan Lagares and Centeno each delivered run-scoring singles in the sixth for New York but the uprising was cut short when Centeno was thrown out at second when he tried to advance on a throw that initially went to third.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Desmond has three homers and eight RBIs over the last six games. … Wheeler allowed five runs (three earned) and six hits in six innings in his sixth consecutive winless start. … The Nationals placed LHP Gio Gonzalez (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list and recalled RHP Ryan Mattheus from Triple-A Syracuse.
