Yankees 7, Twins 4: Carlos Beltran belted a go-ahead three-run homer and visiting New York overcame the worst start of Masahiro Tanaka's brief career to snap a five-game losing streak.

Zelous Wheeler homered among his two hits and scored twice in his major-league debut as the Yankees beat the Twins for the sixth straight time in Minnesota. Tanaka (12-3) gave up season highs in runs (four) and hits (nine) to halt his record-tying streak of 16 quality starts to begin a career but still became baseball's first 12-game winner.

Former Yankee Phil Hughes (8-5) was battered for a season-worst seven runs in 6 1/3 innings as Minnesota fell to 3-15 in its last 18 versus New York at Target Field. Chris Parmelee extended his hitting streak to 13 games with an RBI double and Brian Dozier and Sam Fuld each had two hits and scored a run for the Twins.

Hughes cruised through the first four innings and carried a 2-0 lead into the fifth, but quickly ran into trouble when Mark Teixeira and Brian McCann opened the inning with singles before Beltran launched a 400-foot blast to right-center. Wheeler, called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre earlier in the day, went deep one out later to make it 4-2.

Kurt Suzuki doubled and scored on Kendrys Morales' groundout in the sixth to pull Minnesota within a run, but New York answered with three runs in its next at-bat on Brendan Ryan's run-scoring double, Brett Gardner's RBI single and Derek Jeter's groundout. Dellin Betances pitched a scoreless eighth before David Robertson earned his 19th save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Beltran's blast was the 367th of his career, moving him past Lance Berkman and into sole possession of four place on the all-time list among switch-hitters. ... Yankees LHP CC Sabathia, on the disabled list since May 11 due to inflammation in his right knee, has been shut down indefinitely after waking up with swelling in his knee following a rehab start for Double-A Trenton on Wednesday. ... The Yankees demoted 3B Yangervis Solarte to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and learned that RHP Alfredo Aceves, who was with the Triple-A affiliate after spending time with New York earlier in the season, was suspended 50 games for a second positive drug test.
