Rangers 5, Twins 4: Nick Tepesch dominated over 7 1/3 scoreless innings in his longest start of the season as Texas held on to take the opener of a three-game set from visiting Minnesota and snap an eight-game slide.

Adrian Beltre homered and Shin-Soo Choo went 3-for-4 with an RBI double for the Rangers, who picked up their first home win since June 11. Tepesch (3-3) failed to make it through seven innings in any of his first seven starts but scattered three hits and a pair of walks while striking out five to flummox the Twins.

Minnesota made things interesting with four runs in the ninth off Joakim Soria, putting the tying run on third after Jorge Polanco’s two-run triple cut it to a one-run deficit. But Soria struck out Brian Dozier and got Kurt Suzuki to ground out to third to end the threat.

Choo led off the first with a single and Beltre made Twins starter Kevin Correia (4-9) pay by driving a 3-2 fastball the opposite way to right-center for his first home run since June 4. Correia (4-9) lasted six innings and was charged with four runs on six hits and a pair of walks.

Texas piled on in the fifth inning when Chris Gimenez reached with a one-out walk and scored on Luis Sardinas’ double that just eluded the dive of left fielder Josh Willingham. Choo came up one batter later and plated Sardinas with a double off the wall that just made it over Willingham’s leap, and the Rangers tacked on another run in the eighth when Beltre followed back-to-back singles with a sacrifice fly.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Choo moved back into the leadoff spot after spending most of the last month in the No. 3 spot, which was taken over by new 1B Carlos Pena. … The Twins have dropped nine straight road games and are 17-25 away from home. … Beltre is 10-for-17 with six RBIs in his last five games.
