Cardinals 5, Brewers 3: Matt Adams and Oscar Taveras each clubbed a two-run homer as visiting St. Louis extended its lead in the National League Central.

Kolten Wong recorded an RBI double for the Cardinals, who moved four games ahead of Milwaukee with their seventh win in eight games despite mustering only four hits. Lance Lynn (15-8) allowed three runs - one earned - on five hits and four walks over six innings before two relievers bridged the gap to closer Trevor Rosenthal, who worked around a two-out double for his major league-leading 43rd save.

Jonathan Lucroy collected his league-high 48th and 49th doubles while Lyle Overbay and Ryan Braun added RBI hits for the Brewers, who fell to 1-10 in their last 11 and saw their lead over Pittsburgh and Atlanta for the second wild card cut to a half-game. Kyle Lohse (12-9) was tagged for five runs in four innings before Milwaukee's bullpen supplied five perfect frames.

Adams pounded a breaking ball into the Cardinals' bullpen in the first for a 2-0 lead, but the Brewers scored twice in the bottom of the inning helped by a pair of errors by St. Louis left fielder Matt Holliday. Braun looped a single to left to plate Scooter Gennett and Gerardo Parra also came home as Holliday booted the ball before throwing wildly to the plate. Holliday atoned for the miscues one batter later by gunning down Braun at home.

St. Louis regained the lead in the fourth inning, when Wong doubled home Jhonny Peralta and Taveras followed by golfing a pitch into the right-field seats. The Brewers cut the deficit to 5-3 in the sixth as Overbay followed a double by Lucroy with one of his own.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Adams snapped a 12-game homerless drought in his first at-bat since missing two games with an oblique strain with his eighth blast in 22 career starts against Milwaukee. ... Brewers 2B Rickie Weeks doubled in the ninth inning to reach 1,000 hits for his career. ... Lynn joined Detroit's Matt Scherzer as the only active pitchers to post three consecutive 15-win seasons.
