Brewers 4, Pirates 3:
Mike Fiers scattered two hits over seven innings and Aramis Ramirez drove in a run among his three singles as host Milwaukee salvaged the finale of a three-game series versus Pittsburgh.

Jonathan Lucroy, Scooter Gennett and Mark Reynolds each had an RBI single for the Brewers, who snapped a three-game skid and lead second-place St. Louis by 1 1/2 games in the National League Central. Lucroy and Gennett joined Ryan Braun and Gerardo Parra by collecting two hits apiece.

Starling Marte belted a two-run homer and Andrew McCutchen also went deep for the Pirates, who fell five games behind first-place Milwaukee but remained 1 1/2 games back of San Francisco for the second wild card. Vance Worley (5-4) permitted four runs on 12 hits in 6 1/3 innings to suffer his third straight loss following a three-game winning streak.

After Marte's ninth homer forged a 2-2 tie in the top of the second inning, Milwaukee regained its two-run lead when Lucroy and Ramirez each singled to right off Worley. Fiers (4-1) kept Pittsburgh at bay and won his fourth consecutive start after allowing two runs and striking out seven.

Jeremy Jeffress worked a scoreless eighth before Francisco Rodriguez saw his 10th pitch to McCutchen sail over the wall in left with one out in the ninth. The right-hander worked around a two-out walk to Russell Martin before striking out Pedro Alvarez to secure his 39th save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Gennett (2-for-4) continued his torrid month by improving to 17-for-47 in August. ... The Pirates claimed LHP Bobby LaFromboise off waivers from San Diego and optioned him to Triple-A Indianapolis. ... Pittsburgh opens a six-game homestand on Monday by beginning a three-game set versus the Cardinals. Milwaukee opens a nine-game road trip on Monday with the first of three contests against the Padres.
