Brewers 1, Pirates 0:
Yovani Gallardo struck out a season-high eight over seven scoreless innings as visiting Milwaukee took the rubber match of the three-game set to continue its domination of Pittsburgh.

Jonathan Lucroy had three hits and scored the only run on Aramis Ramirez's seventh-inning groundout as the Brewers improved to 10-3 versus the Pirates. Gallardo (4-4) allowed four hits and walked one to win for the second time in 11 starts and boost his career mark to 12-4 against Pittsburgh while Francisco Rodriguez got the final four outs and stranded the tying run at third for his 19th save.

Left-hander Jeff Locke (0-1), recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to make the start, was a hard-luck loser after giving up the one run on three hits over seven innings. Andrew McCutchen had a pair of hits for the Pirates, who dropped eight games behind division-leading Milwaukee in the National League Central.

Lucroy led off the seventh with a ground-rule double that bounced off the left-field line, extending his hitting streak to five games, and moved to third on Carlos Gomez's flyout before scoring on Ramirez's grounder to first base. The Brewers got two big defensive plays to preserve the lead – right fielder Ryan Braun threw out Neil Walker at the plate in the first and shortstop Jean Segura saved a run on Travis Snider's ninth-inning groundout.

Pittsburgh also loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh but Gallardo fanned pinch hitter Jose Tabata and induced Josh Harrison to pop out. The Pirates also had runners at the corners with one out in their first at-bat but Braun snagged Gaby Sanchez's fly ball and fired a strike to the plate to nail Walker for an inning-ending double play.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Harrison had his 10-game hitting streak snapped while LF Starling Marte went 0-for-3 and is hitless in his last 23 at-bats. ... The Pirates placed RHP Gerrit Cole, a former No. 1 overall draft pick, on the 15-day disabled list Sunday due to shoulder fatigue, forcing the team to push back Charlie Morton to start Monday versus the visiting Chicago Cubs in the opener of a four-game set. ... The Brewers, who continue their road trip at the New York Mets on Tuesday, recalled Mike Fiers from Triple-A Nashville after placing RHP Tyler Thornburg (elbow) on the 15-day DL.
