Brewers 6, Twins 2: Matt Garza was dominant over 6 1/3 scoreless innings while Mark Reynolds and Jonathan Lucroy homered to lead host Milwaukee to its fourth win in five games.
Lucroy and Carlos Gomez produced back-to-back RBI singles in the fourth inning for the Brewers, who snapped a five-game skid against Minnesota. Garza (3-4) allowed six hits and walked two while striking out eight to win for the first time in five starts.
Kyle Gibson (4-5) was reached for four runs and six hits in six frames to get saddled with the loss. Joe Mauer had a pair of doubles among three hits while Josh Willingham and Brian Dozier delivered RBI singles for the Twins, who fell to 7-12 in series openers.
Gibson matched Garza until Jean Segura opened the fourth with a bunt single and came around to score on Lucroy's hit to center. Gomez added his run-scoring single and Reynolds followed Scooter Gennett's leadoff double in the fifth with his 13th home run of the year to make it 4-0.
Garza struck out the side in the third, stranded a pair of runners in both the fourth and fifth and fanned two more in the sixth. Consecutive errors by Minnesota third baseman Trevor Plouffe allowed Milwaukee to plate another run in the seventh before Lucroy slugged his third homer of the year in the eighth to make it 6-1 as the Brewers picked up their eighth win in 10 interleague games this year.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Gibson is 1-4 with a 7.39 ERA on the road, compared to 3-1 with a 1.85 ERA at home. ... Willingham is 8-for-18 with seven walks in his last six games. ... Gomez is 14-for-37 with nine RBIs in 10 games batting cleanup.
