Angels 5, Rangers 2:
Kole Calhoun hit a two-run homer and Matt Shoemaker pitched 7 2/3 strong innings as host Los Angeles completed a three-game sweep of Texas.

C.J. Cron homered in his third straight game and David Freese recorded a run-scoring double as the Angels took control with a four-run fourth-inning uprising against Yu Darvish (7-4). Mike Trout had two hits and Calhoun scored twice as Los Angeles handed Texas its fifth straight defeat.

Shoemaker (5-1) gave up one run and eight hits, striking out six while winning his fifth consecutive decision. Darvish fanned nine but allowed five runs (four earned), five hits and four walks in six innings, Brett Snyder homered in the ninth and Adrian Beltre notched two hits to move within one of becoming the sixth third baseman in major-league history to reach 2,500 for his career.

Cron went deep off Darvish in the fourth inning to make it 2-0, Freese delivered an RBI double into the left-field corner and Calhoun launched a shot inside the right-field foul pole to make it a five-run margin. Texas got on the board in the sixth, when Shoemaker’s pickoff throw to first base hit Elvis Andrus on the left wrist and caromed away to allow Leonys Martin (3-for-4) to score from third. The Rangers had two baserunners in the eighth before Hector Santiago came on to retire Shin-Soo Choo on a liner to center.

Los Angeles’ first run off Darvish was controversial in nature as Calhoun scored from first in the opening inning as center fielder Martin's throw after fielding Albert Pujols' single bounced into foul territory between third and home. Darvish retrieved the ball and threw Calhoun out at home, but the call was reversed when catcher Chris Gimenez was ruled to be blocking the plate before he caught the ball.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Texas manager Ron Washington was ejected for disputing the reversal in which Gimenez violated the home-plate collision rule. … Pujols was 1-for-4 while serving as the DH after missing Saturday’s game with back issues. … Rangers 1B Donnie Murphy departed with knee soreness prior to the bottom of the fourth inning.
