Marlins 7, Angels 1: Giancarlo Stanton belted a three-run homer and Jarred Cosart pitched into the eighth inning as visiting Miami cruised past Los Angeles in the opener of their three-game series.

Christian Yelich went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored for the Marlins, who climbed within three games of San Francisco for the second National League wild-card spot. Cosart (11-8) was staked to a 7-0 lead after four frames and limited the Angels to one run on seven hits with one walk over 7 2/3 innings.

The Marlins jumped on Angels starter Wade LeBlanc (0-1) for three runs in the third and extended the lead in the fourth on Yelich’s RBI single and Stanton’s three-run shot over the left-center field wall. LeBlanc was charged with six runs in 3 1/3 innings for Los Angeles, which fell into a first-place tie with Oakland in the American League West.

Casey McGehee capped the Marlins’ three-run third inning with an RBI single off LeBlanc, who allowed seven hits and walked three in his first major-league start since May 6, 2013. Donovan Solano and Reed Johnson each had two hits and scored twice as Miami improved to 13-5 in interleague play.

Erick Aybar went 3-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 10 games for the Angels, who ended Cosart’s shutout bid in the eighth on Kole Calhoun’s RBI double. Cosart, who was acquired from Houston on July 31, has allowed a total of two runs over 20 2/3 innings in his last three starts.
