Royals 4, Twins 0: Jason Vargas pitched seven shutout innings and Raul Ibanez homered as Kansas City won the three-game series against host Minnesota.

Mike Moustakas and Jarrod Dyson had run-scoring singles as the Royals won for the fourth time in six games. The Twins have lost seven of nine games and placed Joe Mauer (oblique) on the disabled list earlier in the day.

Vargas (8-3) struck out five and allowed four hits and two walks while winning for the fourth time in five decisions. Wade Davis struck out two in the eighth and Greg Holland finished up as Kansas City blanked Minnesota for the first time since 2006.

Ibanez went 2-for-4, scored twice and smacked his first homer since joining the Royals when he went deep against Casey Fien in the eighth to make it 3-0. Eric Hosmer added a run-scoring single in the ninth to provide the final margin.

The Royals had four hits off Kevin Correia (4-10) in the second inning while pushing across two runs and leaving the bases loaded. Salvador Perez had a leadoff single and Omar Infante hit a one-out, ground-rule double before Moustakas and Dyson followed with RBI singles.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Correia allowed just two runs and six hits in six innings while dropping to 0-5 in nine career starts against the Royals. … Kansas City recalled RHP Casey Coleman from Triple-A Omaha and optioned RHP Michael Mariot to the same club. … Minnesota recalled 1B-OF Chris Colabello from Triple-A Rochester to replace Mauer, who was injured in Tuesday’s game.
