Mariners 7, Royals 5: Brad Miller clubbed a tiebreaking homer to lead off the ninth inning, lifting visiting Seattle in the opener of a three-game series.

Logan Morrison smacked a solo homer and added a run-scoring single in the ninth off closer Greg Holland (0-2) while Robinson Cano had two hits and two RBIs as the Mariners handed Kansas City its second straight defeat following a 10-game winning streak. Charlie Furbush (1-4) escaped a bases-loaded jam in the eighth and Fernando Rodney worked around two hits in the ninth to notch his 19th save.

Mike Moustakas belted a two-run homer, Salvador Perez added a solo shot and two RBIs and Billy Butler collected three hits for the Royals, who erased a 5-0 deficit. Kansas City's James Shields gave up five runs on nine hits in seven innings while counterpart Hisashi Iwakuma was tagged for a season high-tying five runs in five-plus frames.

Cano drove in his second run with a fifth-inning double and came home two batters later when Morrison drilled an offering by Shields over the fence in right to provide a seemingly commanding 5-0 lead for Iwakuma. Perez ignited the comeback with a one-out blast in the fifth, ending Iwakuma's 20 1/3-inning scoreless streak against Kansas City.

Lorenzo Cain followed with a double before Moustakas hammered a shot to deep right to cut the deficit to 5-3. Butler and Alex Gordon opened the sixth inning with singles to chase Iwakuma before Perez greeted Dominic Leone with an RBI single to center and Cain plated the tying run with a groundout.

NOTEBOOK: Holland had a string of 16 scoreless appearances halted, allowing his first run since surrendering a homer at San Diego on May 5. ... Cano extended his road hitting streak to 21 games with the first-inning RBI single. ... Butler has seven multiple-hit games during a 10-game hitting streak while Perez has hit safely in 13 of 14 games.
