Royals 8, Yankees 4: Salvador Perez belted a tiebreaking three-run homer and finished a triple shy of the cycle as host Kansas City evened the four-game series with New York.

Lorenzo Cain also had three hits, scored twice and drove in a run while Eric Hosmer swatted a solo homer as the Royals ended a string of five straight home losses at the hands of the Yankees. Aaron Crow (3-1) retired all four batters he faced in relief of left-hander Danny Duffy, who allowed three runs on five hits in 5 2/3 innings.

Yangervis Solarte had two hits and two RBIs and Carlos Beltran added a run-scoring double for New York, which lost for the fifth time in seven games. David Phelps (1-4) was battered for seven runs on 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings to lose his fourth consecutive start.

The Yankees erased a 3-0 deficit in the sixth against Duffy, getting on the board when Beltran doubled down the left-field line for his first hit in 10 at-bats since coming off the disabled list, and Solarte looped a single to center to plate two more runs. Phelps gave the lead right back in the bottom of the inning, walking Billy Butler and Alex Gordon before Perez hammered a three-run shot into the bullpen in left.

Cain followed with a triple and scored when Norichika Aoki slashed a two-out single past third base to make it 7-3 before Hosmer launched a towering homer to lead off the seventh. Kansas City scored three times in the second on back-to-back doubles by Butler and Gordon and RBI singles from Cain and Alcides Escobar.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Gordon has hit safely in six straight and 15 of 16 for Kansas City, which improved to 12-0 this season when scoring at least seven runs. ... Yankees CF Jacoby Ellsbury (2-for-4) extended his hitting streak to 12 games. ... Hosmer's mammoth blast in the seventh was only his second of the season and first since May 5, ending a 30-game drought.
