Royals 6, Blue Jays 1: Lorenzo Cain went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, including a two-run homer, and Jason Vargas pitched six strong innings as visiting Kansas City defeated Toronto for the second straight night.

Alex Gordon also had a two-run blast while Billy Butler recorded three singles and scored three times and Norichika Aoki added a pair of hits for the Royals. Vargas (5-2) allowed one run and scattered seven hits with seven strikeouts and three walks, winning for the third time in four decisions.

Jose Bautista homered and singled while Dioner Navarro added a pair of hits for the Blue Jays, who left 14 runners on base. Toronto starter J.A. Happ (4-2) yielded six runs on nine hits with six strikeouts over 7 2/3 innings to take the loss after winning his previous three outings.

Butler singled to lead off the second inning, moved to second after Gordon walked and scored on Cain’s base hit to right for a 1-0 lead. Butler’s single started the fourth and he jogged home when Gordon drilled a 3-2 pitch from Happ over the right-field fence for a 3-0 edge.

Bautista homered to right-center with two outs in the fifth, but the Royals got the run back in the sixth on Cain’s two-out RBI single to center field. Cain ended Happ’s night with his second homer of the season in the eighth, belting a 2-1 pitch over the center-field wall for a 6-1 lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Toronto 1B Edwin Encarnacion, who came in with a club-record 16 homers in May, was 0-for-2 with three walks. … Gordon extended his hitting streak to eight games and Cain’s four RBIs matched a career high. … The Blue Jays recalled RHP Bobby Korecky and optioned LHP Rob Rasmussen to Triple-A Buffalo. Korecky came on to retire all four batters he faced Friday.
