Giants 5, Dodgers 2 (13): Gregor Blanco homered among his two hits and drove in two runs as visiting San Francisco outlasted Los Angeles in the opener of a three-game series.

Andrew Susac delivered a go-ahead RBI single in the 13th inning off Kevin Correia (7-17) and Blanco followed with a double that scored two runs to help the Giants pull within 3 1/2 games of the first-place Dodgers in the National League West. Santiago Casilla (3-3) tossed two scoreless frames and Hunter Strickland worked a perfect 13th inning for his first career save.

Jake Peavy allowed two runs on four hits over seven frames to help the Giants maintain their first-place tie with Pittsburgh for the top NL wild-card spot - five games clear of third-place Milwaukee. The Dodgers tied the game 2-2 in the fifth when Carl Crawford blasted a lead-off homer before Juan Uribe doubled and later scored on Dee Gordon’s sacrifice fly.

Blanco began the game with a home run to center field off Dan Haren, who held the Giants without another hit before exiting after seven innings. The Giants added to their lead in the third as Blanco reached third on Matt Kemp’s error and scored on Joe Panik’s sacrifice fly.

Haren allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit while striking out seven for Los Angeles, which committed three errors and was held to four hits. Panik went 3-for-5 while Brandon Belt and Brandon Crawford had two hits apiece for the Giants.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Giants snapped a three-game losing streak and can clinch a playoff spot with a win on Tuesday and a Milwaukee loss. … Peavy owns a 1.31 ERA over his last eight starts for the Giants, who improved to 63-17 when scoring first. … Dodgers OF Yasiel Puig preserved the tie in the 11th inning with a perfect throw from center to nail Brandon Belt at the plate.
